Two are skillfully designed mentoring workshops for teachers – that will help to re-inspire, reassure and refresh your teaching journey. Both workshops work together to create an entire package of learning, or can be taken alone.

Two are open classes, where everyone is welcome – The Ralston Method Signature flow on the Friday night and a Sunday evening outdoor party class – Call of the Wild!

Curious to know what The Ralston Method is?  In this luxurious 2.5hr practice Nikki seamlessly integrates the Strong, Centred and Aligned elements into a moving meditation. Connecting deeply to the rhythm of our breath to ride us through strong standing postures, arm balances, inversions, backbends and twists, before we melt into delicious seated folds. A strong yet enjoyable flow to get you out of the head, fully embodied and present to the moment. Come with an open heart and ready to learn.

See beyond the surface – $200 – Teacher development
10.30-1.30pm (60min lunch break) 2.30-6pm
Before we can effectively assist our students we need to cultivate our ability to see beyond the surface of what is being presented.  In this training,  you will hone in on your ability to see and understand the mechanics behind what you are seeing.  We will look at how to assess posture, dysfunction and range of motion in students, empowering you with skills to approach each student with clear intention and guidance to enhance their practice and awareness.  Learn how to create language that promotes personal learning, exploration and skilful choice making.
Sunday December 2

Hands on Guidance – $200 – Teacher development
9.15 – 12.15pm (60min lunch break) 1.15-4.45pm
Learn how to assist your students with proprioception when your verbal cues don’t yet land.  By the clear use of our hands we can assist students to feel and find ease within their practice.  Many of us have experienced forceful adjustments trying to make an ‘ideal shape’ in our yoga lifetime, for many this has lead to injury or intrusion in our practice and we may have shied away from touching our students as a result.  In this workshop you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the art and grace of safe, effective, mindful assists in the yoga studio that promote grounding and connection over flexibility and range. You will get to feel and remember just how great hands on assists feel.

Call of the Wild party class with DJ Andy Dub – $50 – Everyone welcome!
5.30-7.30pm – 90 min outdoor class followed by post class drink overlooking the river.
Join Nikki and fellow Kiwi DJ Andy Dub for a fun filled outdoor class, to kick off the festive season. These two have worked together of various festivals here and in NZ and can’t wait to get Brisbane moving and grooving. This class has been a festival favourite for many and now it’s your chance to join the tribe! One of our most powerful survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to and gather from a group of like-minded people.  This class is a playful collaboration of music and movement.  We get firmly connected to the earth, providing us with roots from which to rise from during this juicy heart expanding, hip shaking class.  Bonded by the love of yoga we heed the call of the wild, journeying together through playful asana and tribal beats.  When you dance to your own rhythm, life taps its toes to your beat! After the class we will have a sunset toast (drinks included) and $5 from each ticket sold will go to the Hope Uganda Appeal.

How to understand and teach REAL bodies - 30hrs continued education program

In a world that has become over run with popular images of super bendy instagram yogis, how can we learn to better understand how bodies move, different variables involved in stability, mobility and range of motion in the yoga postures that a most commonly taught today. Have you started teaching yoga and realised just how different and complex the human body is!! Then this advanced training is for you.  You will learn how to deconstruct the body for deeper understanding then we will look at how to build a sustainable practice around this knowledge that suits each individual.

  • Discuss functional range of motion vs limited range vs hypermobility

  • Learn how to assess students ROM, assess risk and obstacles in practice.

  • We will debunk the concept of stretching and flexibility and rebuild our teaching in ways that are aligned with integrity in the joints, muscular and fascial systems.

  • Skeletal variations will be discussed and offer solutions to honour each individual.

  • Understand and measure your own range of motion to inform your own personal practice (I know right your personal practice began to slip when you started teaching right?)

  • Create language that promotes personal learning, exploration and skilful choice making.

  • Participants will learn how to create class plans that turn classes into a personal laboratory that are inclusive, invite inquiry and creates a safe place for exploration.

  • Learn how to work with one on one clients in safe, informed ways.

This training is for students who have already completed The Ralston Method 250hrs teacher training to continue to build hours towards 300 and 500hr accreditation.  Some considerations will be taken for other 200hr qualified teachers that have been teaching for at least one year to join. Please email theralstonmethod@gmail.com to discuss

This intimate 3 day training with Nikki Ralston is dedicated to learning how to best serve and understand students with limitations and injuries while connecting with other likeminded yoga teachers. Safety and individual attention are becoming less and less common in many yoga classes, while large all-levels, athletic classes are sadly becoming the industry norm. Nikki’s aim is to make yoga functional, affective and available to people from all walks of life, especially the ones who need it most!
This training will give you the tools excel as a teacher who can speak to many different people. A teacher who can see each individual and offer appropriate solutions with compassion and understanding. This advanced module will help you teach full group classes as well as private sessions with more skill, understanding and compassion.


You will:

  • To understand unique skeletal structure and how to asses when a posture just isn’t meant for someone!

  • Explore a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and biomechanical problems related to the various areas of the body

  • Develop ways to modify a variety of fundamental poses to have clear communication and help resolve common injuries through yoga

  • Sharpen your observational skills, to be able to see beyond the external and start to identify inherent patterns

  • Learn to demonstrate modified poses empathetically in order to teach a more inclusive and accessible yoga class

  • Understand common conditions and injuries and how to offer the appropriate therapeutic solutions: areas such as the neck, rotator cuff, lower back, sacrum, hips, knees, and feet, and conditions such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more.

  • How to create therapeutic practices, tailored to integrate alignment and form to foster ease and longevity in the practice

  • How to apply therapeutic hands-on adjustments on each other in order to help students and private clients.

Stress is a part of our lives whether we like it or not, it's unavoidable. With the pace of our modern day lives faster than ever, we can struggle to keep up with demands and end up feeling overwhelmed, depleted and disconnected. Long term stress can lead to a whole host of nasty health problems and dissatisfaction with life. In this workshop Nikki asks the question "What would happen if we could start to make friends with stress and learn ways in which we can redefine our response, strengthen ourselves and fall back in love with our lives."  In this workshop we will explore what triggers our stress, what strengthens us and how to effectively release stored tension from the body and rebalance our nervous system through Asana, Meditation and Pranayama. Participants will need to bring a journal or something to write on.

Free your heart and let life flow- Workshop

The backbend communicates one of the deepest, most beautiful expressions of an open heart and mind within the yoga practice. Backbends can bring unconscious thought patterns and fears to the surface. Because of their complexity, they can easily be misunderstood and poorly executed. In this workshop, we will discover how to achieve health and longevity for the spine through extension versus compression. Practicing basic backbends like upward facing dog and upward facing bow directs our pathway toward more advanced backbends like handstand/forearm balance, scorpion, and hollowback. Expect to open and strengthen your upper back, shoulders, side body, and thoracic and lumbar spine.

This class is for students with a regular practice and teachers of all levels.

The Great 'Let go'

Learn how to use the ‘yoga tune up balls’ to ease pain and discomfort, improve posture and enhance performance. We use Yoga Tune Up therapy balls and myofascial release techniques to roll out and release muscles and the surrounding connective tissue in an effort to calm the nervous system, reduce tension, ease pain, increase mobility, and bring the body back into balance.

Lower body concentrates on releasing through the gluteus, TFL, hamstrings and low back.  Warning: you may feel snoozy and like marshmallow after.

Learn how to use the ‘yoga tune up balls’ to ease pain and discomfort, improve posture and enhance performance.  We use Yoga Tune Up therapy balls and myofascial release techniques to roll out and release muscles and the surrounding connective tissue in an effort to calm the nervous system, reduce tension, ease pain, increase mobility, and bring the body back into balance.

We work sequentially releasing tension from the upper back, neck and shoulders.  targeting all those spots that get sore from computer work and giving you the tools to manage your tension at home.

Balls will be available for purchase so you can continue self care at home.

Drop deep into a somatic experience and reconnect with your life force. Work through and embodied asana practice to release stored tension in this deepest muscle of the human body. Our fast paced modern lifestyle (which runs on the adrenaline of our sympathetic nervous system) chronically triggers and tightens the psoas - making it literally ready to run or fight. The psoas helps you to spring into action - or curl you up into a protective ball... The psoas is far more than a core stabilising muscle; it is an organ of perception composed of bio-inteliigent tissue and "literally embodies our deepest urge of survival, and more profoundly, our elemental desire to flourish".

 

Saturday 1:30pm-4pm | Heart Chakra Explosion

Having the courage to embrace our vulnerabilities and fears is one of the most powerful and liberating things we can ever do. This class invites you to break out of your misperceptions and shift into a fresh perspective. We will work on building confidence and strength in our shoulders, chest and abdominals through foundational postures like handstand and forearm balance. Floor and standing backbends will teach us the grace of opening our bodies by unlocking the upper back, chest and shoulders, as well as our quadriceps and hamstrings. These exercises strengthen our lower back and open the front of our body, allowing us to tackle more advanced inverted backbends like Scorpion and Hollowback postures.

Delve deeper into the art and grace of safe, effective, mindful assists in the yoga studio.  WE will look at how to approach each student with clear intention and guidance to enhance their practice and awareness.  Working in a supportive group setting each participant will have the opportunity to feel and perform assists and enhancements on each other and receive and give feedback.  Be prepared to open your body, mind and heart and realise just how amazing a great assist can feel!

Coordinated muscle action is essential for movement and stability in the shoulders. We take a closer look at the anatomy of the complex shoulder joint to gain more understanding around key alignment points in the upper extremities, arms and hands to create a sustainable practice full of possibility in ourselves and students.

Most yogis consider handstand, adho mukha vrksasana, an extremely difficult and advanced asana. Although it requires considerable strength, agility, and stamina, it can be just as elemental to your practice as plank or downward-facing dog. We will cover the fundamental alignment points of handstand through a study of the dynamic and interconnected movements of the yoga vinyasa, particularly down dog, plank, and chaturanga.  The next step in finding the balance point and alignment in your handstand practice.  We break down key principles for shifting out of our comfort zone and into the exhilaration and light point of balance “nothing brings me more into the present moment than the feeling of a straight up handstand” 

Open to all students with a regular practice and teachers of all levels.

Pranayama, the practice of ancient yogic breathing techniques, consciously controls the flow of breath, and thus enhances the flow of energy in the body. A regular, balanced pranayama practice increases prana (life energy), thereby inviting greater mental clarity, heightened healing potential and deeper self-understanding.
